Inklaim, the patent drawing software founded in Turin

Inklaim is an Italian start-up founded in Turin. It develops web software that prepares the drawing sheets of a patent application from what the firm already has: the client's 3D model, the technical drawing, the sketch, the claims. The draftsperson refines, the patent attorney approves, the firm files.

In short

Who is behind Inklaim?

Inklaim is web software from an Italian start-up founded in Turin that prepares draft patent drawings, checked against EPO, UIBM, USPTO, PCT, CNIPA and KIPO rules, from 3D CAD models (STEP/IGES), DXF or vector PDF files, photos of an object, sketches and claims.

The service is provided by Innovazione su Misura di Catana Petronela, Via Val Della Torre 81, 10149 Torino (TO), Italy, VAT no. IT12533670019. Today the product is ready for a pilot with IP firms.

Why it exists

Figures are the most hand-crafted part of a matter

In patent firms, hours go into redrawing views that already exist in the client's 3D model. Then every sheet has to be adapted to the patent office, and one wrong reference numeral is enough to draw an objection.

The rules of the four offices are similar but not identical. The EPO requires a usable surface area of 26.2 × 17 cm, with minimum margins of 2.5 cm at the top and on the left, 1.5 cm on the right and 1 cm at the bottom (Decision of the President of the EPO dated 7 July 2025, OJ EPO 2025, A49). For the UIBM, Art. 22 of Ministerial Decree 33/2010 requires at least 2.5 cm on all sides. PCT and USPTO sheets are numbered “1/3” (Rule 11 PCT, 37 CFR 1.84).

Inklaim was created to take this repetitive work away, without taking control of the sheet away from the draftsperson and the patent attorney.

Built with draftspersons

Why exactly five areas?

Draftspersons in patent firms pointed us to five tasks that needed lightening. Inklaim is built around them.

01

Simplifying figures

Holes, fillets, chamfers and small hardware removed from the 3D model; dimensions, title block and center lines removed from DXF and vector PDF files.

Patent figure simplification →
02

Sheets from the 3D model

Orthographic views, axonometric view, sections A-A and exploded views from STEP or IGES, at the same scale on the sheet.

Patent drawings from 3D models →
03

Consistent views

Same numeral, same part in every figure; reference numerals aligned between text and drawings; every FIG. cited, and in order.

Consistency check →
04

Automatic numbering

Move a figure and the “FIG. n” references in the text are updated; “Renumber all” follows your firm's numbering scheme.

Figure numbering →
05

Texts in drawings

All the texts in the figures in one table, with optional translation following the matter's glossary.

Principles

How we work

Six rules that apply to the product and to this website.

The geometry comes from your files

CAD views, DXF and PDF import and line drawing are deterministic. The AI does not draw lines.

Drafts, not filings

Inklaim prepares drafts checked against the formal rules. The final check and the filing stay with the firm.

Data in the European Union

For all plans: application, database, uploaded files and backups. Your plan does not change where the data is stored.

Optional, declared AI

Your firm turns it on or off. Every content made with AI is marked in the app and in the exported files (EU AI Act, Art. 50).

Public prices in euros

From €49 per matter, with a 14-day free trial. You pay for a figure when you export it for filing.

Saying what we do not do

We prefer a stated limit to a vague promise. The list is below.

How we handle matter data is explained on the security and data page.

What Inklaim does not do

  • It does not replace the patent attorney or the draftsperson.
  • It does not guarantee acceptance by the patent office: it applies and checks the known formal rules.
  • It does not open native SolidWorks, Inventor or Creo files: you export to STEP or IGES; DWG files are saved as DXF.
  • It does not compare dimensions between views that show different sets of parts: it flags them as not compared.
  • Drawing from a sketch or photo is still in beta.

What it does, every time

  • It derives the figures from the files your firm already has.
  • It lays out the sheets for the chosen office: EPO, UIBM, PCT or USPTO.
  • It checks reference numerals, view scale and cited FIG. across the whole matter.
  • It leaves the sheet editable, in AutoCAD too, through a layered DXF file.
  • It keeps the version history of every figure.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about Inklaim as a company

Who provides the Inklaim service?

Innovazione su Misura di Catana Petronela, Via Val Della Torre 81, 10149 Torino (TO), Italy, VAT no. IT12533670019. Inklaim is an Italian start-up founded in Turin.

Does Inklaim already have customers or reviews?

The product is ready for a pilot with IP firms. That is why you will not find customer logos or reviews here: we will publish them when they are real.

Does the AI draw the figures?

No. The lines come from the 3D model, the drawing or the sketch. The AI is optional and runs on Google Cloud with processing in the EU; it works on texts and proposes numerals and checks for you to confirm.

Does Inklaim only work in Italy?

No. Inklaim is served online from Turin to IP firms, patent attorneys and corporate IP departments that file at the EPO, the USPTO, under the PCT or at the UIBM. This site, inklaim.com, is in English, German, French, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese and Korean; the Italian site is inklaim.it. The app interface is available in eight languages: English, Italian, German, French, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese and Korean.
