Free patent drawing checker

Upload your drawing sheets as a PDF or an image and within seconds you see, office by office, what breaks the formal rules: A4 sheet, resolution, color, margins, line weight and text height. For the EPO, PCT, UIBM, USPTO, CNIPA and KIPO. Free, no sign-up, and the file is not kept.

No AI: the checker applies the same rules as the office profiles in the Inklaim editor.

What it measures, page by page

  • Sheet size: A4 portrait or landscape, with a 3 mm tolerance.
  • Resolution of images: at least 300 dpi.
  • Color: flagged for offices that do not accept color drawings.
  • Margins: the drawing compared with each office's usable surface, side by side, in millimeters.
  • Line weight against the office minimum.
  • Text height: reference numerals and captions against the minimum height.
  • How many figures and reference numerals the page has.

In short

What does the free drawing checker do?

The Inklaim drawing checker reads a PDF of up to 10 pages or a PNG, JPG or TIFF image and, for each office you choose, lists errors and warnings page by page: A4 sheet size, resolution, color, margins, line weight and text height. For margins it tells you which side overflows and by how many millimeters.

It is a free, preliminary check: “no issues found” does not mean the office will accept the drawings. The final review stays with the patent attorney.

The rules

Which rules does it check, office by office?

The measurements come from the office profiles Inklaim uses to lay out drawing sheets. These are the main ones.

OfficeSourceMinimum margins (top / left / right / bottom)Minimum text height
EPORule 49(2) EPC and Decision of the President of the EPO dated 7 July 2025, OJ EPO 2025, A492.5 / 2.5 / 1.5 / 1 cm, usable surface 26.2 × 17 cm0.32 cm
PCTPCT Rule 112.5 / 2.5 / 1.5 / 1 cm0.32 cm
UIBMArt. 22 of Ministerial Decree 33/2010at least 2.5 cm on all sidesnot set for drawings; 0.32 cm as a rule
USPTO37 CFR 1.842.5 / 2.5 / 1.5 / 1.0 cm0.32 cm (1/8")
CNIPA and KIPOformal rules of the Chinese and Korean officesusable surface of the office profileminimum of the office profile

For line weight the checker uses the profile minimum: 0.4 mm for solid lines with KIPO, 0.2 mm with the other offices. Color is reported as an error only for offices that do not accept color drawings; for the EPO the conditions of the notice in OJ EPO 2025, A57 apply.

What the checker does not do

  • It does not read the texts: language and text matter that is not indispensable in the figures still need checking.
  • Line weight is an average over the page; text height considers the characters recognized as numerals or captions.
  • It does not open DXF files, which have no sheet: convert them to PDF first with the free drawing converter.
  • It does not guarantee acceptance by the office.

Your files

  • No account and no copy: the file stays in memory only for the check and is then discarded.
  • Neither the file nor its name ends up in the service logs.
  • No AI: the measurements are calculated on the file.
  • Files up to 10 MB, at most 30 runs per hour.

After the check

Wrong margins on twenty figures? The app fixes them in one click

With an Inklaim account, drawing sheets are laid out for the chosen office from the start. “Fix all margins” brings the drawing, numerals and labels back inside the usable surface, for one figure or the whole matter, with a before/after preview. Sheets already filed as a scanned PDF are imported with the figures split apart and the numerals read.

FAQ

Questions about the drawing checker

Is the drawing checker really free?

Yes. It is free and you do not need an account. The only limits are on usage: files up to 10 MB and at most 30 runs per hour.

What happens to the file I upload?

It stays in memory only while the check runs and is then discarded. It is not saved, and neither the file nor its name ends up in the service logs.

Which files can I check?

PDFs up to 10 pages and PNG, JPG or TIFF images. If an image does not declare its resolution, the checker assumes a full A4 sheet and says so in the result.

Does “no issues found” mean the office will accept my drawings?

No. It is a preliminary check of the sheet measurements. Texts, figure content and rules that cannot be measured still need to be checked by the patent attorney.

Does the checker use AI?

No. Size, margins, lines and text are measured on the file using the office profiles of Inklaim.

Which language is the tool in?

The tool opens in your browser's language: Italian, English, German, French, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese or Korean.

The rules explained in full: EPO patent drawing requirements, Italian patent drawings (UIBM), patent drawings: how to prepare them.
