Vectorize a scanned drawing to SVG

A scanned drawing sheet, a photo of a drawing or a clean sketch becomes vector lines: Inklaim traces them along the center of the stroke and places them on an A4 sheet within the usable surface of the chosen office. Free, no sign-up, and the file is not kept.

No AI: it is the same tracer Inklaim uses for line drawings from sketches, and it adds no lines.

How it works

  • Upload a PNG, JPG or TIFF image or a page of a scanned PDF.
  • Choose the office: EPO, PCT, UIBM, USPTO, CNIPA or KIPO.
  • Preview the vector drawing and download the SVG.

In short

What does the free vectorizer do?

The Inklaim vectorizer turns a raster drawing (a scan, a photo of a drawing, a PNG, JPG or TIFF, or a PDF page) into a line SVG, traced along the center of the stroke and laid out on an A4 sheet within the usable surface of the chosen office. The lines follow the original drawing: none is invented.

Use it when all you have is an old paper sheet or a drawing as an image and you want clean lines to edit. For a DXF, ask the converter for DXF output.

Sheets already filed

A scanned sheet from an earlier application turns back into lines, ready to reuse in a continuation or a foreign filing.

Client drawings

A drawing that arrived as an image or a photo becomes an SVG you can open in your graphics or CAD program.

Clean sketches

A sketch with crisp strokes becomes a line drawing. For freehand sketches the app also has an eraser, scissors and “Simplify”.

What the vectorizer does not do

  • It does not recognize texts and numerals as characters: they become lines too.
  • It does not split the figures on a sheet or remove headers and captions: the scanned-sheet import in the app does that.
  • It works on one page at a time.
  • A dirty or low-resolution scan gives broken lines: start from 300 dpi if you can.

Your files

  • No account and no copy: the file stays in memory only for the vectorization and is then discarded.
  • Neither the file nor its name ends up in the service logs.
  • No AI.
  • Files up to 10 MB, at most 30 runs per hour.

In the app

Scanned sheets: figures split apart, numerals kept

With an Inklaim account, a PDF of scanned drawing sheets becomes a set of editable figures: you choose the pages, the figures are split apart, the header, sheet numbers and captions are removed, and the existing reference numerals are read and kept, renumbered or removed. You review everything before the figures are created.

FAQ

Questions about the vectorizer

Can I get a DXF instead of an SVG?

Yes, with the free drawing converter: choose DXF and the image goes through the same vectorizer.

Does the vectorizer use AI?

No. The lines are traced on the drawing: no line is invented or completed.

What resolution do I need?

A 300 dpi scan usually gives continuous lines. At lower resolutions thin lines break up.

Is it free?

Yes, with no account. Files up to 10 MB and at most 30 runs per hour.
